Canela crepes & coffee is a bright and casual café tucked into the vibrant Carlaw Avenue strip, offering a focused menu of crepes paired with thoughtfully prepared coffee. This spot is tailored for those who appreciate quality coffee alongside creative sweet and savory crepes, serving locals who want a relaxed, unpretentious place to start their day or enjoy a leisurely afternoon.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who seem to know their regulars, creating a welcoming vibe that encourages lingering. Seating is available inside with a cozy, simple setup, but there’s also a pleasant patio out front — ideal on sunny days when the street buzzes with that neighborhood energy. Families, solo coffee drinkers, and small groups all find a comfortable niche here, and kids are clearly welcomed without fuss.

Canela specializes in crepes that are more substantial than your typical thin French style, often with crispy edges and a tender, fluffy center. The menu covers a range of Mediterranean-inspired fillings alongside classics, offering interesting combinations like the Myconos (feta, turkey, yogurt, potato sticks) and a Halva crepe filled with tahini, pistachio, and syrup. Sweet options include staples like banana Nutella or the Canela Honey with walnuts and cinnamon, catering to anyone looking for a comforting treat without overly fussy presentation.

Coffee at Canela holds its own with options like a flat white and a “fantastic latte” that locals seem to enjoy alongside pastries like the pistachio croissant or oatmeal raisin cookies. The baristas create more than just beverages here — they add a bit of neighborhood charm, greeting newcomers with a sense of inclusion rather than mere transaction.

For anyone in the area, Canela makes a solid choice for breakfast or a midday pause. It’s especially appealing to those who want more than basic coffee shop fare but don’t require the formality of a full-service restaurant. The patio is a draw when the weather allows, making it easy to watch Carlaw Avenue’s ebb and flow while enjoying a carefully made crepe and coffee. Regulars tend to stop by in the mornings or early afternoons when the place hums with casual, easygoing energy.

Whether you’re craving an inventive savory crepe with a Mediterranean twist or a sweet indulgence paired with thoughtfully brewed coffee, Canela fits smoothly into the neighborhood’s growing café culture, balancing comfort and quality with an approachable, community-oriented spirit.

Delightful crepes and pastries, welcoming and casual vibe. Stopped by and got the halva crepe and chocolate croissant. The crepe was on the thicker side and had a generous stuffing of tahini, pistachio and syrup. The croissant was dense and buttery, with good quality chocolate. People are friendly and welcoming. There are seats inside and a good patio outside to lounge the time away. A great neighborhood spot!

Best crepes ever ! The service over here, I never found it anywhere else so far in Toronto. The barista welcomes you as a new member of Canela’s family that she wants you to serve best out of the best. The crepe is crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. Myconos is the one that I’ve had on the picture and one of the Savoury options that she recommended for me. Definitely will come again here with my family to taste other items on the menu!

Canela is my favorite spot for breakfast in the neighborhood. I've been several times and the crepes are excellent every time and made with care. Every person I have brought here loves it too. I especially LOVE the breakfast crepe (bacon, egg, cheese) - filling and so delicious.

This place opened only two months ago and it’s a great addition to the neighbourhood. The staff are kind, friendly and the food is delicious. The crepes are flavourful, generous in portion size and reasonably priced. Nice and kid friendly too!

It's a really good place to go. I got a pistachio croissant and mocha to go. The barista is friendly and patiently explained different coffee to me. The first experience was awesome! I loved the pistachio croissant. It's sweet but not too sweet. With the mocha it perfectly gives me a great morning. If you are around, it's a great place to stop by. Good pastry and coffee. I'm gonna try crepes next time!

Follow @bredgyeats on IG for more food pictures! Crepes > Waffles, but both are excellent canvases for adding all sorts of innovative or classic ingredients within. The spongy but thin crepe brings a subtle chew that soaks up the chocolate sauce, fragrant Kahlua liqueur, roasted coffee creamy mascarpone, sweet maple syrup, and bitter cocoa powder. Service was nice, and liked the bright interior and the chessboard that kept me entertained as the crepe was being made.

I first went to Canela while it was still being renovated. The owner graciously offered me a latte, and I have been hooked every since... all that to say, this review is long overdue, so here goes: I have frequented Canela regularly over the last year, and I have continued to enjoy their lattes, baked goods and freshly made crepes: - the lattes are velvety, well-balanced, and served at the ideal temperature; - the croissants are fresh and flaky, with the pistachio croissant being the dark horse you never saw coming; and - the crepes always hit the spot, whether you are wanting something sweet or savoury. They are soft, fluffy and melt in your mouth (I recommend the Breakfast All-Day crepe with eggs, cheese, avocado, tomato and chili flakes, and if really hungry, feel free to add bacon). The staff are always friendly and greet you with a smile. They are happy to answer your questions, and make first-timers, as well as regulars, feel welcome. Finally, the owners should be commended for the overall quality, atmosphere and cleanliness of their establishment. They clearly strive to ensure each customer has an excellent experience, and work diligently to train their staff to guarantee a consistent outcome when it comes to the making of their various coffees and crepes. They have welcomed local artists and authors into their café, and have helped promote and build a sense of community in the neighbourhood. To summarize: if you have not yet been to Canela, now is your chance - I assure you, you will not regret it.
